Description
While creating this collection of photos, I learned how to take a variety of composition styles. I also had a more hands on learning experience with taking low-light photography. Using a longer shutter speed at night with a higher ISO was not something I had much experience with up to this point, so this was a great opportunity to experiment with taking photos at night for me. I also learned about different tools in Photoshop, and when they are best used. There were many times I had to remove distracting lines or objects from the photos, so I had to use either the spot healing or clone tool. Both can be handy, but in certain situations with different types of patterns, spot healing can look too smudgy, and cloning can look too out of place or repetitive, so I had to make sure I was using the best one for each situation, or sometimes a combination of them. I also learned how sharpening an image can be useful in situations beyond portraits; by creating better definition for shapes that need emphasis, or by drawing out the smaller details. I also learned the difficulty with using a mirror to take my own portrait. Without a tripod or assistance from anyone, it was difficult to make sure the shot was in focus and the camera was out of the frame. Although it took multiple attempts, I am pleased with the result. Overall, I would say my biggest take away from this process, was that it allowed me to grow my photography experience in a practical sense.
